Rotes Zimmer

Zimmer Grasplatz

Grazplatz holds significant historical importance as the very place where the first diamond was discovered by Zacharias Lewala, a railway worker, back in 1908. Before the railway was established, Grazplatz served as a storage site for alfalfa, which was used to feed the oxen before embarking on arduous journeys through the waterless expanse of the Namib desert. This monumental event set off a diamond rush of epic proportions. The double room available at Grazplatz features twin beds and, in conjunction with the “Garub” room, offers exclusive access to the adjoining living room. From this cozy common area, guests can step out onto the balcony and indulge in awe-inspiring views of the picturesque Luderitz harbor. The room itself boasts an ensuite bathroom, complete with a toilet and shower, ensuring convenience and comfort during your stay.

The Garub train station was built in 1906 to provide the transport locomotives with water in their journey from Luderitz to Aus

The Garub train station, constructed in 1906, served as a vital water source for locomotives on their journey from Luderitz to Aus. However, during the war years of 1914 and 1915, much of the railway line and the station itself fell victim to destruction. In response, boreholes were drilled in the surrounding area to supply water for the horses of the Schutztruppe and later the horses of the Union of South Africa. Presently, these waterholes sustain the descendants of those horses as well as other animals inhabiting the region. The double room at Garub features twin beds and, in conjunction with the “Grasplatz” room, offers exclusive access to the adjoining living room. From this inviting common area, guests can access the balcony and indulge in breathtaking views of the enchanting Luderitz harbor. The name of this apartment is derived from the renowned “Charlottental” diamond fields, which were located to the northeast of Luderitz. Adorning the walls are captivating pictures showcasing the fields, buildings, and mining equipment from the period between 1900 and 1914, providing a glimpse into the rich history of Charlottental.

The apartment features two separate bedrooms, each ranging from 25 to 30 square meters in size, ensuring ample space and privacy for all guests.
